Dance: The theater ballet troupe, artists from the Lithuanian International Ballet Academy, the ACH Theater Youth Troupe, and the “Lietuva” ensemble.
Choreographer Anželika Cholina“The story of Carmen is a work that, while staging it, I involuntarily and strongly identified with Carmen herself, because I am very close to her nature of behavior—to live here and now, to love with all her heart, never giving up what is most precious—her freedom.
Throughout my creative journey, I kept returning to this theme because I was never completely satisfied with the result… I tried to “unlock” it again and again until I realized that the main character in this love story is a young soldier, José, who falls in love with the vivacious Carmen, who confuses his ideas about pure love.
And only now, twenty-six years later, after shifting the emphasis, adding the character of José’s beloved Micaela to the story, and turning the performance into the tragedy of José’s love—exalting a man’s ability to love—do I feel that the performance has finally come to fruition…”
