Three laureates of the Golden Stage Cross (Aidas Giniotis, Vilma Dabkienė and Vesta Grabštaitė) are the initiators of Kiss me, Kate production. A story within a story is a challenge for directors and a great entertainment for the audience. People have the possibility to watch the process of the performance created on the stage and another story line within it. Kiss me, Kate develops a story of two divorced artists: Lilli Vanessi and Fred Graham who meet in a theatre in order to create the characters (Petruchio and Katherine). Petruchio and Katherine are the characters from Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew. Both characters are very similar to Lilli Vanessi and Fred Graham in their temperament, so it is very interesting to watch the double performance on the stage.
Kaunas State Musical theatre chose to stage the modern version of the musical from the year of 1999. Conductor Julius Geniušas claimed that both versions (one from 1948 and another from 1999) are completely different stage productions.
